New German electric and hydrogen airline

The Bremen-based start-up Evia Aero wants to offer regional flights to coastal regions.
A new airline is to be established in Bremen to connect coastal regions in Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands with regional flights. According to the start-up Evia Aero, which was founded in 2022 aerotelegraph the start-up Evia Aero has its sights set on the airports of Esbjerg, Bremen and Antwerp in particular. A letter of intent has already been signed with Groningen Airport Eelde in the Netherlands. Evia Aero planes are due to take off from here from 2026.
The British company Cranfield Aerospace Solutions is to manufacture the first aircraft. A letter of intent has also been signed here. This deal will see the Evia Aero fleet grow to ten Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft, which have been retrofitted with hydrogen fuel cells. Up to nine passengers could be transported per aircraft. There is another declaration of intent. The Israeli manufacturer Eviation wants to provide 25 Alice electric aircraft. It is not yet clear by when. An Alice aircraft had its maiden flight in September.
The maintenance of electric aircraft is different to that of conventional aircraft. New infrastructure must therefore be created at the destination airports. This includes hangars, for example.
