Marius Ochs | 24.10.2022Bremen-based start-up Evia Aero aims to offer regional flights in coastal regions.
A new airline is to be set up in Bremen to link coastal regions in Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands through regional flights. The start-up Evia Aero, founded in 2022, will, according to aerotelegraph particularly targeting Esbjerg, Bremen and Antwerp airports. A memorandum of understanding already exists with Groningen Airport Eelde in the Netherlands. Evia Aero's planes are to take off here from 2026.
British company Cranfield Aerospace Solutions is to produce the first aircraft. There is also a memorandum of understanding here. This deal is expected to grow the Evia Aero fleet to ten Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft retrofitted with hydrogen fuel cells. Up to nine travelers could be transported on each aircraft. There is another statement of intent. Israeli manufacturer Eviation plans to provide 25 Alice electric aircraft. It is not yet clear by when. An Alice plane had its maiden flight in September.
Maintenance of electric aircraft is different from conventional ones. Therefore, new infrastructure must be created at the destination airports. This includes hangars, for example.
