Rocket Internet apparently lays off employees

The wave of redundancies in start-ups has now also reached investors.
The investment company Rocket Internet is apparently to downsize its global team, according to Finance Forward reports. Months ago, founder Oliver Samwer is said to have warned his portfolio companies about the poor economic situation and compared it to the 2008 financial crisis. Now it is said that there have been redundancies at his fund Global Founders Capital and the early-stage investor Flash Ventures. More than a third of the employees at Global Founders Capital are to be made redundant. At Flash Ventures, it would be half of all employees. The investment company has offices in Berlin, the USA and China. It is not known which offices are affected by the redundancies.
As the start-up scene reports, the dismissed employees are said to be particularly young members of the investment team. This was reported by a source close to the company. In future, Samwer would like to restructure the organization and rely more on experienced investment managers.
