Uber Eats wants to expand into 70 German cities

The company plans to significantly expand its food delivery business in Germany by the end of the year.
Uber Eats plans to operate its delivery service in a total of 70 German cities, as reported by the news portal Bloomberg. Following Delivery Hero's withdrawal from the German market, Uber Eats is now looking to expand significantly in Germany.
The delivery service is currently active in 14 major German cities. These include Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Düsseldorf. Around 50 more cities are to be added this year.
According to Eve Henrikson, Head of Uber Delivery for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the expansion is due to the high demand for food delivery services. "This gives us the confidence to expand further," says Henrikson. With its model, Uber Eats relies on a mixture of the mediation of orders from restaurants to delivery services and food deliveries with its own logistics partners. According to Henrikson, the advantage over competing delivery services is that cooperating restaurants do not necessarily need their own vehicles. This is because Uber Eats can rely on a network of couriers.
