Berlin Brands Group receives an additional 100 million US dollars

Just a few weeks ago, Bain Capital's investment turned the company into a unicorn. With the additional capital, it can now expand further.

The online retailer Berlin Brands Group has once again secured capital. This time it came from the French private equity investment firm Ardian. The Handelsblatt reports from company sources that the amount is said to be around 100 million US dollars. The company had not officially announced a value.

It was only at the beginning of September that Bain Capital acquired a stake in the company. This made the Berlin Brands Group a unicorn. The valuation of the company therefore exceeded one billion US dollars for the first time. In addition, the company had already secured a staggering 700 million US dollars in investments at the time. The company now wants to use the money to expand significantly - and go on a major shopping spree. Apparently, the acquisition of further e-commerce brands is planned.

The Berlin Brands Group already has more than 45 brands with more than 3,700 products in its portfolio. The company also claims to have already sold more than 15 million products. Its distribution channels are located in over 28 European countries, the USA, China and Turkey. The Berlin Brands Group claims to have access to 1.5 billion active e-commerce shoppers. The company also has over 1,000 employees - and generated net sales of over 300 million euros in 2020.

The investor Ardian is not an unknown name either. The Paris-based company is one of the largest private equity funds headquartered in Europe. Founded in 1996, Ardian had already held a stake in Berlin Brands Group for six years and only transferred its 40 percent stake to Bain Capital in September.
