Penny cooperates with Bringoo

The discounter now also wants to deliver food to your doorstep. It is using the start-up from Hamburg for this.

In recent months, financing rounds for 10-minute delivery services have been flooding in and supermarkets such as Rewe have also been offering home delivery for some time. Now Penny is the first discounter to follow suit and is relying on the Hamburg start-up Bringoo.

As reported byLebensmittelzeitung (LZ ) , the service will initially be launched in major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne and then gradually rolled out across Germany. In the long term, small towns with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants will also be able to order from Penny via Bringoo and have groceries delivered to their homes.

However, unlike higher-priced supermarkets such as Rewe, Penny customers have to pay for delivery. They currently have to pay 2.90 euros. The groceries, on the other hand, should be exactly the same price as in the store, and the order is placed via the Penny app. Bringoo then delivers the products within 45 minutes, which is significantly slower than many other grocery delivery services such as Gorillas. The start-up from Berlin promises delivery within ten minutes.

Hasib Khan came up with the idea for the start-up in 2018. In the following two years, he founded Bringoo and set up a team. Since 2020, users have been able to order food from supermarkets via the Bringoo app. Deliveries are made by cargo bike or car, and the start-up plans to use electric cars by the end of 2021.
