1 million euros pre-seed financing for ABH Optics

With the support of HTGF, ABH Optics will bring its groundbreaking meta-optical lenses to the market

Copenhagen, August 7, 2024 - ABH Optics ApS, a Danish high-tech company and spin-off from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), has successfully closed a €1 million pre-seed financing round. This investment, led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), will accelerate the development and commercialization of their meta-optical lenses, which enable a significant reduction in lens thickness at high correction factors.

Ultra-thin lenses with correction factors

ABH Optics has developed a new type of ophthalmic lens using state-of-the-art nanotechnology, which has emerged from projects at DTU Health Tech. With an exclusive IP license from DTU and based on extensive research funding from DTU, Innovation Fund Denmark and the EU, the company is poised to revolutionize the traditional manufacturing of ophthalmic lenses.

The proprietary technology allows for easy customization of the lenses, taking into account correction factors as well as other visual impairments. The result is a product line of ultra-thin, lightweight and environmentally friendly lenses that reduce plastic consumption. ABH Optics is targeting the 13% of spectacle wearers with correction factors above +/- 4 diopters who will benefit particularly strongly from the new lens technology. Even with high correction factors of up to +/- 20 diopters, the lenses will be less than 2 mm thick.
