9fin achieves unicorn status with 170 million dollar Series C
Fintech 9fin has raised 170 million US dollars in a Series C financing round and is now valued at 1.3 billion US dollars. The company has thus joined the ranks of unicorns in the financial infrastructure sector.
The round is led by HarbourVest Partners. Other investors include CPP Investments as well as Highland Europe, Spark Capital, Redalpine and Seedcamp.
Debt markets as a huge but inefficient market
With a volume of around 145 trillion US dollars, the global credit markets are one of the most important pillars of the global economy. They finance companies, governments and large transactions, but the underlying infrastructure is considered outdated. Many market participants continue to work with fragmented data, manual processes and systems that are not designed for the increasing complexity of modern credit markets. This is where 9fin sees an opportunity for the business model.
AI as a building block for transformation
9fin is positioning itself as an intelligence layer for debt markets. The platform combines proprietary data, real-time analytics and AI-powered workflows to improve decision-making processes.
The functions include, among others
- automatic reading of complex legal documents
- Identification of relevant credit signals
- Real-time tracking of market developments
The aim is to transform fragmented information into clear, actionable decisions.
Demand and rapid growth
More than 300 organizations worldwide are already using the platform, including banks, law firms, asset managers and consulting firms. Particularly noteworthy: CPP Investments first became a customer and later also an investor.
The company has recorded ARR growth of 100 percent for several years in a row and a high level of customer loyalty.
Focus on AI integration and data development
9fin intends to use the fresh capital to drive forward two strategic goals in particular:
Firstly, artificial intelligence is to be deeply integrated into the core processes of credit analysis - not just as an additional function, but as a fundamental part of the way it works.
Secondly, the company is investing in expanding its database. In credit markets in particular, the more comprehensive and differentiated the data, the greater the competitive advantage.
Another focus is on international expansion. While 9fin had no presence in the USA just a few years ago, the market is now the fastest growing for the company. The new financing is to be used to further expand the market position there and to meet the increasing demand from large institutional investors.
A market undergoing structural change
The financing round comes at a time when credit markets are undergoing fundamental change. Boundaries between asset classes are becoming blurred, while volatility and decision-making pressure are increasing. In this environment, the use of AI is becoming increasingly important. And not just to increase efficiency, but to fundamentally redesign analysis and decision-making processes.
