Rethinking plastic

aevoloop secures 8.25 million euros for market-ready circular plastics

The Leipzig-based start-up combines high-performance plastics with genuine recyclability. aevoloop aims to enter the market in 2026.

The chemical start-up aevoloop from Leipzig has successfully completed its seed financing and raised a total of 8.25 million euros. In addition to around 3.25 million euros in venture capital, the company has received almost five million euros in funding from the EU and the Free State of Saxony. The capital is intended to accelerate the market entry of the patented recycling technology. This is a process that makes plastics completely recyclable and biodegradable.

Tech with a predetermined breaking point

aevoloop's solution focuses on a central problem in the plastics industry: conventional plastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene were never designed for recycling. Mechanical recycling reaches its limits because material quality is lost.

aevoloop is rethinking the material from scratch. The startup replaces individual links in the polymer chains with specifically detachable connections! A kind of predetermined breaking point that enables energy-efficient chemical recycling. This means that the plastics remain stable during use, but can be completely broken down into their basic building blocks at the end of their life and reprocessed.

The result is high-quality, recyclable plastics that can be used like conventional polyolefins, but without the ecological disadvantages. In addition, the biodegradability of the materials provides a potential breakthrough in the fight against microplastics.

Investors and funding partners focus on the circular economy

The seed round is led by Circulate Capital, an international impact investor with a focus on circular solutions. Other investors include Positron Ventures and bmp Ventures with the IBG Innovation Fund.

The public funding comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Saxony, implemented by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB). The"Saxy Plastics" funding project is being implemented jointly with the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Leipzig University and the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC). The Startbaser editorial team gives an extra thumb for the name of the funding project alone!

Plastic is not fundamentally bad - only the way we handle it. Our technology makes plastics fully recyclable and combines performance with genuine recyclability.

From research to industrial application

aevoloop intends to use the new funding to expand its team, further develop the technology and drive forward pilot projects with industrial partners. The first applications, such as for films, injection-molded parts and textile fibers, are already being tested.

For the first time, aevoloop offers a genuine alternative material - without compromising on performance or costs. The potential to fundamentally change the plastics industry is enormous.

The technology can be used on existing extrusion and injection molding systems without the need for new production lines.

Strong partners and a tailwind from research

Support also comes from the German Federal Agency for Springboard Innovations (SPRIND), which has already supported aevoloop with around one million euros in start-up funding. Together with the CTC, the start-up is working on further material variants and process optimizations.
