Fight against strokes: Medtech startup from Helsinki closes financing round

Helsinki, June 4, 2025 - Finnish medtech startup AIATELLA is developing AI-supported imaging tools for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. The company wants to use fresh capital to secure clinical approvals and scale its portable screening system. The aim is to prevent up to 100 million strokes worldwide.

Automated vascular analysis in minutes

AIATELLA's core technology is based on a process called Automated Image Measurement (AIM). This makes it possible to automatically detect and quantify vascular diseases using MRI, CT and ultrasound images. What currently requires over an hour of manual image analysis by radiologists takes just a few minutes with AIM. This leads to a significant increase in efficiency for clinics with a high workload.

AIATELLA has the potential to revolutionize radiology.

Financing for clinical studies and mobile screening

Specialist VC, Harjavalta Ventures, Business Finland and a network of angel investors are also participating in a EUR 2 million financing round led by Nordic Science Investments. The funds will be used for the clinical approval and scaling of a portable ultrasound screening system that can detect narrowed carotid arteries at an early stage. This is a key risk factor for strokes.

If you really want to save millions of lives, you don't do it in the operating room, but through prevention in society.

Jack Parker, CEO and co-founder of AIATELLA

In view of the global shortage of radiologists and growing imaging volumes, it is high time to automate medical image analysis. Medical professionals such as Dr. Anna Beattie from Newcastle NHS Trust also see great potential in the technology to enable standardized diagnoses, relatively independent of the experience of the respective specialist.

First the aorta, then all blood vessels

The technology was initially developed to analyze the aorta, the largest artery in the body. But in the long term, AIATELLA aims to cover all blood vessels. Applications range from clinical diagnosis to preventive medicine. Initial screening applications in Finland and the UK have already identified numerous high-risk patients who might have remained undetected without the examination.

Relevance for public health and justice

Up to 80% of cardiovascular deaths are considered preventable if diseases are detected and treated early. AIATELLA's portable solution is designed to enable screening in everyday life, for example at company doctors, vaccination centers or blood donation campaigns. The company also wants to better understand gender-specific and ethnic differences in disease development and thus contribute to closing existing gaps in care.
