Ambienta joins The Bridge and focuses on plant-based nutrition

Ambienta acquires majority stake in The Bridge and focuses on plant-based boom. The billion-dollar plant-based milk market wants to be conquered.

The European investment manager Ambienta, which also has a branch in Munich, has acquired a majority stake in The Bridge. The transaction strengthens Ambienta's commitment to the growing plant-based food market and is also the second investment by its small-cap fund.

The founding family remains involved and will continue to play a central role in the further development of the company.

Established manufacturer with international business

The Bridge was founded in 1994 and produces plant-based drinks, yogurts and related products. Based in northern Italy, the company focuses on clean-label recipes with simple ingredient lists and fully integrated production - from raw material processing to packaging.

The Bridge generates around 80 percent of its turnover outside Italy. In addition to its own brand, the company is also active in the private label business for international customers.

Growth market for plant-based milk alternatives

The European market for plant-based milk alternatives has a volume of over 4 billion euros and continues to grow dynamically. The main drivers are changing consumer habits towards healthier and more sustainable diets.

At the same time, the ecological aspect is becoming increasingly important: plant-based alternatives cause significantly fewer emissions, require less water and take up less land than traditional dairy products. According to the company, up to 500 liters of water can be saved per liter.

Sustainability as an investment strategy

Ambienta has been involved in the plant-based food sector for years and sees it as a key lever for greater sustainability in the agricultural and food system.

The sector is considered particularly relevant as food production accounts for a significant proportion of global greenhouse gas emissions, especially from animal products. Plant-based alternatives offer great potential for reducing the ecological footprint.

Expansion planned through growth and acquisitions

Ambienta sees considerable growth potential for The Bridge in a fragmented market. In addition to organic expansion, targeted acquisitions are also part of the strategy.

The investor wants to support the company in further expanding its market position and becoming one of the leading providers in Europe. In particular, Ambienta will contribute its experience in working with family-run companies.

The partnership aims to achieve sustainable growth by investing in technology, organization and innovation. Together with Ambienta, The Bridge aims to accelerate its international expansion and further capitalize on the increasing demand for plant-based products.
