Methane: a dangerous climate killer

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that is the second largest contributor to global warming after CO2. Natural gas companies are significant emitters of methane. Leaks in plants, pipelines and tanks lead to the release of this gas. Methane has around 85 times the greenhouse effect of CO2, but decays faster. A rapid reduction in methane emissions can therefore stabilize the climate more efficiently.

EU methane regulation requires action

In May 2024, the EU adopted the EU Methane Strategy, which includes strict regulations to reduce methane emissions in the energy sector. Natural gas companies must now record and report methane emissions and take measures to repair leaks. atmio offers a digital solution to help companies comply with these regulations.
