Climate-tech start-up autarkize has received seed funding to further expand its CO2-binding systems.

Pfronten, Germany, October 23, 2024 - The climate tech start-up autarkize has successfully completed a seed financing round of 2.3 million euros. The fresh capital will be used in particular for expansion in the field of biogas technology and heat and steam generation. The aim of autarkize is to decarbonize industrial processes and create large-scale CO2 sinks in order to promote global climate protection.

autarkize has enormous potential to convert previously unused waste streams into high-quality energy.

Seed financing round and participating investors

The financing round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF). Other investors include the Dutch Fair Capital Impact Fund, Interface Capital, Innovation for Impact, Floris Capital and the business angels Lucas von Fürstenberg and Ulrich Blessing. This financing will help autarkize to further establish and scale its technologies on the market.

Innovative technology for decarbonization

The pyrolysis technology developed by autarkize makes it possible to convert biogenic residues such as wood waste, peelings and fermentation residues into renewable gas and certified biochar. While the gas produced can replace fossil fuels in industrial processes, the biochar serves as a long-term CO2 reservoir and can be used in agriculture and construction. Each autarkize plant has the potential to bind between 1,400 and 5,500 tons of CO2 annually and generate up to 10 GWh of renewable energy, making a significant contribution to climate neutrality.

Thanks to the investment, we can offer our modular systems on a large scale and at the same time make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of industrial processes and climate protection.

Michel Konder, CEO of autarkize

Modular and flexible solution for industrial processes

autarkize's pyrolysis systems are modular in design and housed in shipping containers that can be flexibly integrated into existing biogas plants and industrial processes. With an output of up to 2.5 megawatts, these plants are particularly suitable for decarbonizing heating networks, for example in municipal and regional district heating systems. This opens up new opportunities for cities and municipalities to make their energy supply climate-friendly.

autarkize offers solutions that enable humanity to operate within planetary boundaries. Their approach fits perfectly with our goal of promoting sustainable innovation.

Patrick Knodel, CEO of Innovation for Impact

Founded in 2022, the startup autarkize has successfully brought a pyrolysis technology that has been developed for over 25 years to the market. The company's systems make it possible to make companies and regions energy self-sufficient and remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
