Constructor Capital closes first fund for 110 million US dollars
Constructor Capital, the Swiss-based venture capital arm of the Constructor Group ecosystem, has successfully closed its first fund with a volume of 110 million US dollars. The fund is aimed at seed and Series A start-ups in the DeepTech, software and EdTech sectors and focuses in particular on research-intensive, science-related business models.
Focus on scientific excellence and market maturity
Constructor Capital pursues a "science-first" approach, which differs significantly from traditional venture funds. The focus is on start-ups whose technologies emerge directly from cutting-edge university research and have a high degree of scientific complexity. The aim is to support founders in the transition from laboratory research to globally scalable companies.
To validate these technologies, the fund draws on an international network of over 50 universities, including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, ETH Zurich and the National University of Singapore. This network is complemented by hundreds of renowned researchers, including Nobel Prize winners.
Investments of between 1 and 10 million US dollars planned
The fund plans to make investments as lead or co-lead in the range of 1 to 10 million US dollars. In selected cases, individual financing rounds can reach up to 15 million US dollars. In addition, a separate capital share is planned for follow-up investments. Constructor Capital invests globally, including in Europe, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
Focus areas: DeepTech, AI software and EdTech
In terms of content, Constructor Capital focuses on three core areas. In the DeepTech segment, the fund invests in new computer architectures such as quantum and photonic systems, particularly where the focus is on optimization, simulation and energy-efficient computing power. The software segment is dominated by AI-native enterprise platforms, while the EdTech segment primarily promotes AI-supported learning platforms that enable personalized education and equip teachers with new digital tools.
Portfolio with a focus on future technologies
The existing portfolio already includes several technology-driven companies at the forefront of current fields of innovation. These include QuEra Computing, a provider of quantum computers based on neutral atoms, and Lumai, which is working on 3D optical computer architectures to drastically reduce energy consumption and costs in AI inference. Other investments include the AI infrastructure platform GCore, the ERP provider Osome and the augmented reality company VitreaLab.
Team with a scientific background
Constructor Capital was founded by Serg Bell, a physicist, computer scientist and serial entrepreneur with over 350 patents to his name. Bell was previously involved in the founding and scaling of unicorns such as Acronis, Parallels and Solomon Software. The fund is led by Managing Partner Matthias Winter. The General Partner team includes Marie Lepske (DeepTech and Quantum Technologies), Alex Fine (Software and Go-to-Market), Laurent Dedenis (EdTech) and Oleg Melnikov (Product and Software Systems).
Embedded in the Constructor ecosystem
As the Constructor Group's venture engine, Constructor Capital is closely linked to a comprehensive innovation ecosystem. This includes the Constructor University, several research labs, the equity-free accelerator program Constructor Start and Constructor Tech as a platform for applied research and innovation. Portfolio companies benefit from direct access to talent, test environments and long-term industry partners.
The fund is backed by private investors, including technology entrepreneurs, family offices, investment bankers and institutional investment vehicles. Capital allocation is already underway.
