The Dutch healthtech startup Datamonk has completed pre-seed funding of 1.9 million US dollars to drive forward the automation of data migrations in the field of medical imaging. The goal is to help hospitals migrate decades-old imaging data such as X-ray, CT and MRI scans into modern systems faster, cheaper and more securely.

The round is led by Healthy.Capital and Nina Capital. Other investors include Jeroen Tas, former Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer at Philips, and Harm-Jan Wessels, founder of several successful MedTech companies (Applicare, Forcare, Healthsage AI). Former supporters such as Antler and Rabobank also participated.

Agentic AI automates complex migrations

In many hospitals, millions of medical studies are stored in outdated PACS and VNA systems (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems / Vendor Neutral Archives). Migrating them to modern cloud or AI environments has been an expensive, lengthy process up to now. This can often take over a year.

Datamonk uses so-called agentic AI tech to largely automate these processes. AI agents analyse databases, correct incorrect metadata, standardize study names and check data integrity during migration. This allows projects to be completed five to ten times faster. Other benefits include significantly lower costs and less manual effort.

Clean, connected data is the foundation of modern healthcare - from clinical decision-making to AI applications. We don't just migrate image data, we prepare it so that clinics can use it securely and efficiently.

Experienced founding team from healthcare, data and AI

Datamonk was founded in 2024 in the Netherlands by Jaap Gielink, Jai Bhatia (co-founder of Viewics, sold to Roche Diagnostics) and Matthew Condron (former CTO of healthcare migration consultant DesAcc). The team combines deep expertise in healthcare data, cloud technology and artificial intelligence.

Investor Jeroen Tas sees Datamonk as a crucial building block for the digital transformation of the healthcare sector:"Access to integrated diagnostic data is essential - Datamonk solves a problem that has been holding the industry back for years."

Medical image data is one of the most complex IT areas in the healthcare sector. Datamonk's AI approach lays the foundation for interoperability and future innovation.

Using AI to create a database for modern medicine

Datamonk intends to use the fresh funding to further develop its platform, expand the team and develop partnerships with hospitals and IT providers. The long-term vision: to create the data basis for the healthcare system of the future, in which clinical care, research and AI-supported diagnostics are built on a clean, interoperable foundation. The start-up was founded in the Netherlands in 2024 and says it is building the data infrastructure for modern healthcare systems. The platform uses Agentic AI to automate PACS and VNA migrations.
