Deutsche Beteiligungs AG (DBAG) is acquiring a significant minority stake in FinMatch AG. The Stuttgart-based FinTech operates a digital brokerage platform for corporate financing in the German SME sector. The investment is part of DBAG's investment strategy Long-term investments with funds from its own balance sheet and independent of fund structures.

Long-term capital partnership for sustainable growth

As part of this investment strategy, DBAG invests in selected companies with which it can work together strategically over a longer period of time. In contrast to traditional private equity funds, these investments are not tied to typical holding periods. With FinMatch, DBAG is now expanding this portfolio for the sixth time.

The investment allows us a particularly flexible partnership and gives FinMatch the necessary scope to grow organically.

FinMatch is seen as a fast-growing company with a clear unique selling point in the field of digital SME financing.

FinMatch as a leading platform for SME corporate financing

FinMatch was founded in 2018 and has since established itself as a central platform for structured financing projects. The company mediates between SMEs and a network of over 1,000 financing partners. These include banks, funding providers and alternative capital providers.

Since its foundation, FinMatch says it has supported financing projects with a total volume of several billion euros. The platform combines technological processes with independent advice and offers solutions for traditional corporate loans as well as more complex funding and investment programs.

Enormous capital requirements in the SME sector

German SMEs, traditionally the backbone of the economy, are confronted with a constantly high need for financing. In FinMatch's core market alone, there is an annual demand for over 100 billion euros in new debt financing. At the same time, regulatory requirements and the need for advice on investments in areas such as digitalization or sustainable transformation are increasing.

Our platform creates added value precisely where traditional financing partners often reach their limits.

Thomas Becer, CEO FinMatch

The partnership now concluded with DBAG is to be used to further expand the visibility of the platform and support even more companies in their capital procurement.

Founders remain on board

The founders Karsten Helber and Dominic D'Andreamatteo will retain a majority stake in FinMatch AG even after DBAG's investment. Both will remain active in their operational and strategic functions. The plan is to strengthen the company in terms of personnel, expand its market presence and make targeted investments in technology, processes and new business areas.

"Our vision has always been to rethink financing in the SME sector - technology-based, independent and effective. With DBAG at our side, we can pursue this path even more ambitiously," says Supervisory Board Chairman Helber.

DBAG

Deutsche Beteiligungs AG, based in Frankfurt, is one of the longest-established private equity firms in Germany. In addition to traditional fund investments, the listed company is increasingly focusing on direct, long-term investments in medium-sized companies with digitalization potential. In addition to FinMatch, DBAG currently holds five other investments of this type.

The investment in FinMatch underscores DBAG's commitment to actively participating in sustainable, technology-driven business models in the SME sector. For FinMatch, the entry of the experienced investor opens up the opportunity to further professionalize its own platform, expand its market share and deepen its contribution to the transformation of the SME sector.
