Digital insurer Getsafe cracks 200,000 customer mark

The Heidelberg-based start-up plans to expand into other European countries next year.
Getsafe, the insurance start-up from Heidelberg, already has 200,000 customers, including 10,000 in the UK, the company has now announced. "Even before the pandemic, many people were used to doing everything conveniently via smartphone," said Christian Wiens, founder and CEO, explaining the business model. "With Corona, this desire has increased. Getsafe meets the needs of this digital-savvy target group like no other insurer in Europe."
Getsafe was founded in 2015 and advertises innovative features. Since April, for example, insureds have been able to track the status of their claim directly in the app, similar to logistics companies. "We want to build a leading European insurer and help drive the digitalization of the industry." Getsafe offers liability, motor and supplementary dental insurance. The start-up particularly wants to appeal to a young target group. More than a quarter of its female customers take out more than one policy. This means that Getsafe has more than 250,000 active policies.
In the coming months, Getsafe plans to launch its own property insurer. The company is focusing on neighboring European countries as its next markets starting in 2022. The start-up only launched in the UK last year.
