Dronus secures 15 million euros for autonomous drone infrastructure

15 million euros for autonomous drone infrastructure. Dronus focuses on "drone-in-a-box" for industry & smart cities.

The Italian deep tech company Dronus has closed a €15 million financing round to further develop its autonomous drone platform. The round was led by Algebris Investments. Other investors include Azimut, CDP Venture Capital, SIMEST and Eni Next.

The capital will be used in particular to further develop the company's proprietary technology and expand its market position in Europe and beyond.

"Drone-in-a-box" as the basis for new infrastructure

At the heart of the strategy is the patented NEST® system, a so-called "drone-in-a-box" solution. This is an automated air base that controls drone take-offs, landings and battery recharging completely autonomously.

Unlike traditional drone solutions, Dronus takes an infrastructure-based approach: multiple NEST® units can be installed as networked nodes, enabling the creation of scalable, remotely controllable drone networks.

Automated operations around the clock

The platform is designed to fully automate drone operations without the need for on-site personnel. This means that inspection and monitoring tasks can be carried out around the clock, even in so-called BVLOS scenarios ("beyond visual line of sight").

Supported by artificial intelligence and high-precision cameras, the drones analyze data in real time and provide continuous streams of information. The aim is to reduce operational risks while increasing efficiency and reaction speed.

Wide range of applications from industry to smart cities

Dronus technology is used in various areas. These include industrial inspections, security monitoring of critical infrastructure and applications in smart cities.

In the energy and telecommunications sectors, for example, the system enables the continuous monitoring of systems. At the same time, operational risks for personnel can be reduced, as hazardous environments can increasingly be monitored autonomously.

New fields of application are also opening up in an urban context. For example, in traffic management, air quality monitoring and public safety.

International expansion and strong partnerships

Founded in 2018 and based in Trieste, the company is already working with partners such as Eni and Qualcomm. Pilot projects are also underway in Singapore and the USA, for example in an Ericsson 5G smart factory.

With the current financing, Dronus aims to further expand its international presence and establish itself as a technology partner for automated inspection and monitoring solutions.

Focus on AI and autonomous systems

A significant part of the investment will go towards the further development of AI functions and the optimization of data processing in real time. The aim is to further increase the degree of autonomy and establish drones more firmly as an integral part of modern infrastructure.

Dronus is thus positioning itself at the interface of robotics, artificial intelligence and industrial digitalization.
