Enpal invests strategically in theion

Enpal has made a strategic investment in theion to gain access to innovative battery technology for stationary storage. Theion is developing high-performance, sustainable and cost-effective sulfur battery technology. The two companies plan to collaborate on the future commercialization of this technology.
Berlin - Enpal, the renowned greentech company from Germany, has recently made a strategic investment in theion, a start-up specializing in the development of sulfur-based storage technologies. This partnership gives Enpal access to new battery solutions for stationary storage and strengthens its position in the growing European market in the field of photovoltaics.
theion's technology is based on a platform strategy using sulfur as a cost-effective cathode material. This strategy allows sulfur to be combined with lithium for mobility applications and with sodium for energy storage applications. Interestingly, theion has also recently launched an evaluation of sodium-sulfur-based cell chemistries in collaboration with the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND).
The sulfur-based technology will enable high-performance stationary storage solutions at stable prices and increase our supply chain independence. We look forward to working with theion to jointly drive the energy transition.
Henning Rath, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Enpal
theion, a Berlin-based German start-up, focuses on developing energy storage solutions based on lithium-sulfur and sodium-sulfur cells. Sulfur offers outstanding advantages in terms of energy density, product cost, cell safety, supply chain security and carbon footprint. This opens up significant opportunities for mobile and stationary energy storage solutions. Theion's advisory board will also be expanded to include Dr. Gerhard Cromme, former chairman of the supervisory board of Siemens, and tech entrepreneur Lukasz Gadowski, the main investor in theion.
We are pleased to have Enpal on board as a strategic investor. Our goal is to make stationary storage accessible to everyone by combining our technology with Enpal's strong market access.
Dr. Ulrich Ehmes, CEO theion
Enpal, known as a greentech unicorn in Germany, is revolutionizing the use of renewable energy with an integrated solution. The company is the market leader for residential solar systems in Germany and has already installed tens of thousands of rooftop PV systems. Their comprehensive energy ecosystem includes electricity storage, charging stations, heat pumps and the Enpal Energy Manager. Enpal's rental model and no-payment purchase option contribute to fossil fuel independence and have already reached an impressive number of households in Germany.
