Generative Bionics secures 70 million euros for new generation of intelligent humanoids

Italian deep-tech spin-off scales up physical AI robotics. CES premiere planned
News by Marc Nemitz Marc Nemitz · Genua, 09. December 2025

The Italian robotics start-up Generative Bionics has closed a financing round of 70 million euros. This makes it one of the largest investments in Europe's humanoid robotics sector. The round was led by CDP Venture Capital's Artificial Intelligence Fund and supplemented by renowned investors such as AMD Ventures, Duferco, Eni Next, RoboIT and Tether.

Humanoids for real industrial applications

The Genoa-based company develops humanoid robot systems that combine advanced artificial intelligence with industrial-grade design. The aim is to use humanoid machines in operational environments safely, efficiently and in direct interaction with humans. Fields of application range from manufacturing processes and logistics to healthcare and retail environments. They are to be used wherever monotonous, high-risk or physically demanding activities are required.

Acquisition of central IIT competencies strengthens technological development

Generative Bionics was founded in 2024 as a spin-off of the Italian Institute of Technology IIT. Around 70 engineers from robotics research are now joining the company and form the core of the technical organization. They are joined by specialists for certification, industrialization and series production. This integration provides the company with a comprehensive technological foundation that has been built up over two decades at the IIT.

Financing accelerates product development and production set-up

The capital raised will be used for the further development of the technology platform, industrial validation and the establishment of the first production site. One focus is on the further development of physical AI. This is a close integration of robotics and AI that enables humanoid machines to learn directly from real environments.

Generative Bionics is also in final talks about the first industrial pilot applications, which are to be officially announced at the beginning of 2026. This would be the first time the systems are used in real production environments.

Humanoids as the industry of the future

CEO and co-founder Daniele Pucci sees humanoids as part of a fundamental technological change. International market analyses forecast strong growth. The segment is expected to reach a value of over 200 billion euros by 2035 and even grow to 5 trillion US dollars by 2050. Pucci emphasizes that humanoid robots can enhance the cognitive and physical performance of humans and unleash new efficiency potential in complex working environments.

CDP Venture Capital sees strategic opportunity for Italy

Investors also emphasize the importance of the development. Alessandro Scortecci from CDP Venture Capital describes humanoid robotics as a "unique opportunity" to position Italy's scientific and industrial strengths internationally. The financing round builds on previous investments, including funding from the RoboIT Technology Transfer Hub in the prototype phase.

Spin-off of a 20-year research program

Generative Bionics is based on the technological advances of three major IIT robotics projects:

  • iCub - a research platform for cognitive robotics
  • ergoCub - humanoid systems for industrial support
  • iRonCub - the world's only flying humanoid robot

From these programs, the company is developing three central technological pillars: a fine-meshed sensor network, physical AI architectures and AI methods for adapting to extreme conditions. E

The complete version of the first humanoid robot will be presented internationally for the first time at CES in Las Vegas.

Generative Bionics was founded in 2024 as a spin-off of the IIT and develops intelligent humanoid robots based on physical AI. The company combines robotics, AI and industrial design to create humanoid systems that operate safely and reliably in real industrial environments.
