Geotab presents new AI dashcam

Geotab, a provider of fleet management and telematics solutions, has introduced a new AI-powered dashcam with dual focus on the road and vehicle interior called GO Focus Plus. The aim is to significantly reduce risky driving behavior through proactive voice warnings and thus increase the safety of drivers and fleets.
Pilot project with 95 percent less cell phone use at the wheel
A practical test shows the effect of the new technology: the integrated voice coaching has reduced tailgating by 90 percent and cell phone use while driving by 95 percent. Every warning becomes a coaching situation, with the aim of preventing accidents and improving the safety culture in fleets in the long term.
With GO Focus Plus, we offer drivers a partner in the cockpit who recognizes risks and provides immediate assistance. At the same time, we enable fleet managers to proactively shape safety instead of just reacting to incidents.

Challenges for drivers and fleet managers
The transportation industry is under pressure:
- In 2023, there were 5,300 fatal truck accidents in the US. An increase of 43 percent in ten years.
- According to a Geotab survey, 54 percent of German professional drivers said they had considered changing careers in the last year. The reasons given included stress, unpredictable working conditions and accident risks.
For fleet managers, these developments mean rising costs, high demands on employee safety and the need to protect the company's reputation.
Features of the GO Focus Plus
- Proactive driver coaching: AI-supported voice alerts warn of distractions (e.g. phone calls, fatigue) or risky driving behavior.
- Targeted fleet management: video analytics prioritize risks so managers don't have to spend hours sifting through footage. All alerts are backed up with video and contextual data.
- Integrated workflows: Tasks can be assigned, progress tracked and successes visualized via the MyGeotab platform.
Geotab serves over 55,000 customers worldwide with more than 5 million vehicle subscriptions and processes around 100 billion data points every day. The company is considered one of the leading providers for connected vehicles, is committed to strict security standards and offers a broad partner ecosystem via its Marketplace.
Future-proof video intelligence platform
The new video intelligence platform is designed to continuously improve its AI models. Planned updates refine risk detection and expand functionality without additional administrative effort. Thanks to its open architecture, additional camera models and features can be seamlessly integrated in the future.
To me, this sounds a bit like a surveillance tool that will certainly not go down well in this country. Firstly, the ban on cell phones, insufficient distance and dangerous driving are primarily the responsibility of the police and not the employer. And who wants to be constantly recorded and monitored as a professional driver? I am also always in favor of more road safety, but the violations mentioned should be about the driver's license and not the employer's video analysis.
