Court ruling against Deliveroo

The food delivery company was convicted in Italy for its discriminatory algorithm and must pay the plaintiffs 50,000 euros each.

Deliveroo suffered a defeat in the Italian court in Bologna. In the dispute with the company, two complaining employees got right. They criticized the algorithm of the company, which evaluates the work of the deliverers and discriminates in the process.

For example, FRANK, as the algorithm is called, made no distinction between legitimate absences due to sick leave and unexcused absences from work. The court found fault with this and ordered Deliveroo to pay 50,000 euros for each complaining driver and to pay the costs of the proceedings. Deliveroo itself states that the algorithm has already been replaced by a new one since last autumn, so there would not have to be a change in operation. In addition, the company points out that only theoretical discrimination was before the court.
