The venture platform GHARAGE Ventures has launched its first fund. With a volume of 40 million euros, Fund I invests worldwide in technology-driven start-ups that drive innovation in the travel and retail ecosystem. The focus is particularly on solutions relating to automation, increased efficiency and digital infrastructure.

Anchor investor from the travel retail sector

The travel retail group Gebr. Heinemann is participating in the fund as an anchor investor. In addition, the platform plans to collaborate with other strategic investors, including airports, brands and retail partners, who will actively participate in the further development of the global travel and retail ecosystem.

GHARAGE Ventures emerged from the innovation and venture business of Gebr. Heinemann and is now specifically opening up to additional limited partners with the new fund. These will gain access to new technologies, international market knowledge and real test environments within the industry.

Digitalization gap in the travel ecosystem as an investment opportunity

Air traffic has been growing strongly for years, with forecasts predicting a doubling of passenger volumes in the long term. At the same time, airports and travel retail structures are still considered to be comparatively under-digitalized. This is precisely where the investment strategy comes in.

Fund I focuses on start-ups that close this structural gap. These include data platforms, travel tech services and innovations in logistics and supply chains. A total of around 30 companies are to be financed from the seed to the Series A phase.

International platform with locations in Europe and Asia

With teams in Hamburg, Berlin and Singapore, GHARAGE is building a globally oriented venture platform. The aim is to test, validate and subsequently scale innovations in international airport and retail environments at an early stage.

The initiators see this as a decisive lever for developing solutions that work across different regulatory and operational frameworks and are therefore globally competitive.

Initial investments show the range

Investments have already been made in, among others:

  • FileAI, which automates document processing and reconciliation processes to make complex trading structures more efficient.
  • Bounce from San Francisco, which is building a global network for luggage storage and thus addresses an infrastructural component of modern travel chains.
  • Gumshoe AI from Seattle, which supports brands and retailers in gaining visibility in AI-based search and recommendation systems.

These examples illustrate the broad approach along the entire travel and retail value chain - from operational processes and infrastructure to data-driven business models.

Industry to be actively involved in innovation processes

In addition to the pure provision of capital, the platform relies on a strong network of operators, brands, technology partners and investors. Strategic limited partners should not only invest, but also test and help shape innovations in real operations at an early stage.

The long-term goal is to promote technologies that make processes more efficient and stimulate sustainable growth in global travel and retail markets.
