Greens call for support for start-ups in Baden-Württemberg

The Greens are calling on the CDU-led Ministry of Economic Affairs to develop strategies to strengthen Baden-Württemberg as a start-up location.
The Green parliamentary group in Baden-Württemberg is calling for the CDU-led Ministry of Economic Affairs to provide more support for young companies. "Baden-Württemberg must be made visible worldwide as a start-up location," said Tayfun Tok, economic policy spokesperson for the Greens, to the news agency DPA. To achieve this, it is necessary to set up a "round table" where investors and start-ups can come together. The aim is to collect more private venture capital in the southwest. This is particularly about promoting greentechs and social start-ups.
Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU), Minister of Economic Affairs, says that she is already supporting start-ups through the "Start-up BW Pre-Seed" early-stage financing program. To date, around 290 companies have been supported in this way. The state has provided 60 million euros within this framework, with an additional 12 million euros coming from private investors. A study by the consulting firm EY shows that start-ups in Baden-Württemberg raised significantly more capital last year than before. They received 599 million euros in venture capital, compared to only 155 million euros in the previous year.
