Habyt merges with Hmlet

The two co-living providers want to revolutionize living concepts together.

The Berlin-based co-living start-up Habyt is merging with its competitor Hmlet from the Asia-Pacific region. The merger will see the two companies manage more than 8,000 residential units annually and serve 15,000 tenants. More recently, Habyt bought Italian co-living provider Roomie in March 2022.

"The merger is just the first step here. Together, we will now continue to pursue our vision of enabling anyone to live anywhere in the world," says Luca Bovone, founder and CEO of Habyt. Founded in 2017, the company offers subscriptions for apartments. This allows customers to switch between different locations and rent furnished apartments or rooms for a specific period of time. "The need for unbureaucratic, straightforward and direct access to housing options is greater than ever," Bovone said.

According to the company, Habyt saw its growth quintuple in 2021. It plans to grow to 30,000 units by the end of 2023. In the future, the company plans to offer alternative housing concepts, such as multigenerational or shared living.
