shipzero, a specialist for emissions data in logistics, secures 8 million euros from investors. The Hamburg-based startup plans to further expand its emissions reduction technology

Hamburg, May 27, 2024 - Hamburg-based startup shipzero has successfully closed a Series A financing round and received 8 million euros. The financing is led by London-based Environmental Technologies Fund (ETF) Partners. Existing investors, including Rethink Ventures from Munich and the investment companies zu na mi and Raspberry Ventures from London, are also participating again.

Internationalization and new functions

With the new capital, shipzero plans to expand internationally and develop its platform. One focus is on the implementation of a new Book & Claim solution. This enables customers to invest in reduction measures within their transport chain and receive emission certificates in return.

With Book & Claim, freight forwarders can bundle customer demand and refinance the use of biofuels or alternative drive systems. In return, customers receive an independent emissions certificate

Significance for the industry

The financing underlines the growing importance of shipzero's solutions for decarbonizing the logistics industry. Freight transport currently accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions. Therefore, innovations like shipzero's are urgently needed to reduce the environmental impact of the logistics industry.

There is a lot of interest in our product, partly due to the increasing pressure from the new CSR directive. Shippers and logistics service providers need to provide reliable data on their emissions in order to remain competitive.

Focus on primary data

ETF Partners has been investing in companies that use data and digital capabilities to tackle decarbonization challenges for two decades. Fabrice Bienfait, Senior Partner at ETF Partners, explains: "We are investing heavily in the digital transformation of the logistics sector and in global emissions capture. There isan increasing demand for detailed emissions reporting to meet regulatory standards and achieve net zero targets." The industry is increasingly relying on primary data to calculate emissions. Bienfait sees shipzero as the leading emissions management company in Europe, driving the sector forward with its solution.

Support from leading companies

Leading companies such as Hellmann, BSH Hausgeräte and the Nagel-Group already rely on shipzero for emissions data and compliance in logistics. With the new financing and the planned expansions, shipzero is well positioned to continue pioneering in the field of green logistics.

The successful financing round will enable shipzero to further advance its vision of a greener transportation and logistics industry and develop solutions for a sustainable future.
