hellomed raises 6 million euros
Berlin-based HealthTech hellomed has completed venture capital financing in the amount of 6 million euros. The company intends to use the capital to roll out its digital platform hellomedOS across Germany and use it to address medication errors in outpatient and inpatient care.
The financing round is led by Zurich-based VC EquityPitcher Ventures. IBB Ventures and zwei.7 are also participating. In addition, founders, business angels and family offices from the German start-up, health and care sectors are also invested and their involvement is now being made public for the first time. The financing is intended to enable growth from around 100 to over 2,000 care companies by 2030.
A structural problem in the care system
Medication errors are one of the most common causes of avoidable harm in the care sector. Unclear medication plans, manual coordination and media disruptions between nursing staff, doctors and pharmacies lead to up to 250,000 hospital admissions in Germany every year, at a cost of around one billion euros per year.
At the same time, nursing staff spend a considerable amount of their working time on administrative tasks relating to ordering, documentation and queries about medication. Time that is lacking in direct patient care.
Digital medication supply from a single source
With hellomedOS, the company digitizes the entire medication supply process between care facilities, pharmacies, doctors and patients. The platform ensures that medication plans are always up to date, changes are properly documented and everyone involved has the same level of information.
hellomed not only provides the software, but also coordinates communication, ordering and delivery of the medication. The aim is a so-called "closed-loop" system in which sources of error are systematically eliminated.
Relief for nursing staff, more safety for patients
Among other things, the software supports
- the structured recording and continuous updating of medication plans,
- digital ordering and change processes without media disruptions,
- clearly documented communication between nursing and pharmacy,
- as well as pharmaceutical testing and approval steps for quality assurance.
For nursing staff, this means several hours of time saved per week, fewer queries and significantly more safety in everyday life.
AI and telematics infrastructure as growth drivers
hellomed is already connected to the telematics infrastructure (TI) and uses established services such as KIM. In addition, AI-based functions are already being used today, for example to record, structure and automatically merge medication plans from different sources.
hellomed intends to use the fresh capital to further develop these AI functions in a targeted manner and further reduce bureaucracy and manual transmissions.
Broader platform for the care of the chronically ill
In the long term, hellomed is positioning itself as a platform for the continuous care of chronically ill people - across different phases of their lives. In future, hellomedOS will cover four service areas:
- Care: outpatient and inpatient care facilities
- Family: private households with relatives in need of care
- Professional: homecare and other care structures
- Pharmacy: specialized software solution for pharmacies in the care market
The market addressed is large. Over 30,000 care facilities and millions of private households in Germany face similar challenges in the provision of medication.
Investors see great scaling potential
The market for medication supply in the care sector is highly regulated, yet severely under-digitized. hellomed is addressing this market with an integrated, practical solution that fits into existing processes and can be scaled quickly.
With the new financing, the company aims to further expand its position as a central technology partner for safe medication supply in the care sector.
