INCIRT secures 4.8 million euros for new chip architecture
The Aachen-based deep-tech start-up INCIRT has closed a financing round of 4.8 million euros. The round was led by Lifeline Ventures, with High-Tech Gründerfonds also participating. The company intends to use the fresh capital to drive forward the commercialization of its innovative chip architecture and prepare its first customer projects.
New technology for faster data processing
At the heart of the development is a new generation of data converters. According to the company, these enable up to 100 times faster data processing compared to previous approaches.
Our architecture enables performance increases that are almost impossible to achieve with conventional semiconductor development
Oner Hanay, co-founder and CEO of INCIRT
Data converters are essential for the transmission between the digital and physical world and are therefore a key component of modern communication and sensor systems. Instead of optimizing existing technologies step by step, INCIRT relies on a fundamentally new architecture designed for intelligent parallelization.
Alternative to classic semiconductor scaling
A key difference to established solutions lies in the technological approach: while the semiconductor industry traditionally relies on ever smaller production structures, INCIRT pursues an architecture-based approach.
The chips are produced in Europe on the basis of 22-nanometer technology. The company is thus demonstrating that high-performance semiconductors can also be realized without highly scaled production processes outside Europe - an important step towards greater technological independence.
Relevance for telecommunications and satellites
The technology particularly addresses data-intensive applications such as satellite communication and mobile communications infrastructure.
In the satellite sector, the architecture enables higher data rates with lower energy consumption. This allows more antennas to be operated, larger data volumes to be transmitted and the service life of missions to be extended.
The approach also opens up new possibilities in telecommunications: Network operators can increase their capacities, reduce operating costs and at the same time create the basis for future generations of mobile communications.
Focus on industrialization and market entry
The current funding is primarily intended to accelerate the further development of the technology and its validation. At the same time, INCIRT is preparing for market entry and initial industrial applications.
The company sees great potential in the long term: the technology could play a central role in critical infrastructures in the future and strengthen European semiconductor expertise in the long term.
