Lucid Genomics secures 1.3 million euros in pre-seed funding

Lucid Genomics, a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute and Charité, secures 1.3 million euros in pre-seed funding. The funds will be used to optimize a platform that enables comprehensive genetic analyses for medicine.

Berlin, September 2, 2024 - HealthTech startup Lucid Genomics has raised €1.3 million in a successful pre-seed funding round. The financing round was led by Caesar Ventures, with additional support from B.I.F. Partners, Another.Vc and the MPF Accelerator Program. The fresh capital will be used to further develop the AI-based DNA analysis platform to detect genetic diseases faster and more precisely.

AI for comprehensive genome analyses

Lucid Genomics is a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The founders, Uirá Souto Melo (CEO) and Hossein Moeinzadeh (CTO), rely on a combination of state-of-the-art DNA sequencing technology and AI algorithms. In contrast to conventional methods, which are limited to coding gene segments, the platform also analyzes the "dark genome" - the non-coding DNA regions that are largely unexplored but may contain important information for diagnoses and treatments.

The Lucid Genomics platform is designed especially for players in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors to fully analyze genetic data and use it for the development of precise diagnoses and new therapies. The developed AI technology identifies complex genetic patterns and mutations regardless of their position in the genome. The synergy of state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and advanced AI developments could have groundbreaking implications for precision medicine, gene editing and pharmacogenomics.
