The venture capital company Montis has launched a new fund with a first closing of 50 million euros. The aim is to finance European start-ups in the fields of energy, industry and artificial intelligence. The fund is supported by the European Investment Fund (EIF) via the REPowerEU program, the Polish Development Fund (PFR) as well as family offices and private investors from Central and Eastern Europe, among others.

Energy, industrial and AI innovations

The fund is being launched at a time of profound upheaval in the European economy. Topics such as industrial transformation, rising energy demand and the increasing use of AI are driving demand for new technologies and more efficient infrastructures.

Investments are made in 20 to 25 early-stage start-ups (pre-seed and seed) that develop solutions for the energy and industrial transformation or strengthen Europe's competitiveness in the long term. Artificial intelligence plays a central role as a scaling lever in many cases.

Investment strategy with a focus on scaling

Initial investments of between 500,000 and 2 million euros per start-up are planned. Around half of the fund volume is reserved for follow-up financing to support particularly successful portfolio companies in their growth.

The fund pursues an active investment approach and aims to support founders not only financially, but also strategically - for example with internationalization, scaling and preparation for further financing rounds.

Experienced team builds on existing track record

Montis VC is backed by an experienced team that has previously invested under the name Montis Capital. Since 2019, around 30 million euros have been invested in nine companies, including Micromobility Port, Fresh Inset and Autofixer.

With the new fund, the team intends to significantly expand its activities, both in terms of ticket sizes and in terms of international reach and network.

International network strengthens market access

The Montis VC team is complemented by an international network of venture partners. These include former Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, entrepreneur Tomasz Misiak and energy expert Bart Dujczyński.

In particular, this network is intended to help connect portfolio companies internationally and facilitate access to global markets.

Broad investor base and further capital raising planned

One of the most important investors is the European Investment Fund, which invests via the REPowerEU program - an initiative to strengthen Europe's energy independence and competitiveness. PFR Ventures has also invested 10 million euros.

However, the current first closing marks just the beginning: Montis VC plans to further increase the fund in the coming months and is already in talks with additional investors.
