Mycoprotein production - Kynda secures 3 million euro seed

With the support of Enjoy Ventures, PHW Group and Clima Now, the startup is scaling up its sustainable fermentation solution for food and animal feed production.
Jelmstorf, February 19, 2025 - Biotech startup Kynda has raised €3 million in a seed funding round to further expand its mycoprotein production. The round was led by Enjoy Ventures (via the Invest-Impuls Scale Fund), with participation from PHW Group and Swiss climate tech investor Clima Now. In a second closing, C.E.L.L. Investment will also join as a further investor.
Fermentation for sustainable protein production
Kynda relies on industrial biomass fermentation to convert agricultural by-products into high-quality mycoproteins. The specially developed plug-and-play fermentation solution enables scalable and resource-saving production directly where by-products are generated - thus reducing transportation routes and CO₂ emissions.
Our customers need thousands of tons of mycoproteins. This financing allows us to work with our partners to scale up production and reach the mass market.
Daniel MacGowan, co-founder of Kynda.
The mycoproteins produced have a meat-like texture, valuable essential amino acids, natural fiber and an umami-rich taste. They are suitable for both plant-based foods and animal nutrition.
Production expansion and strategic partnership with the PHW Group
Kynda will use the fresh capital to expand production at its new facility in Jelmstorf, which is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2025. The PHW Group, known for brands such as WIESENHOF and Green Legend, is not only joining as an investor, but also as a strategic partner.
Through our partnership with Kynda, we are strengthening our innovative power in the field of alternative proteins and further advancing fermentative raw material production.
Marcus Keitzer, PHW Group
Sustainable protein production as a game changer for the circular economy
Kynda pursues a circular approach: instead of disposing of by-products, they are efficiently converted into high-quality proteins - with significantly lower water consumption and fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventional protein sources.
"Kynda's mycoprotein technology is a real game changer. Within 24 hours, the startup transforms agricultural by-products into valuable proteins - with a fraction of the environmental footprint of conventional methods," says Nathalie Moral, CEO of Clima Now.
With strong investors and innovative technology, Kynda is positioning itself as a key player in the future of sustainable protein production.
