The European open source platform NetBird has successfully closed a Series A financing round of 10 million US dollars. The round was led by Pace Capital, with participation from Nauta Capital, InReach Ventures and Antler. The Berlin-based company positions itself as a transparent alternative to market-leading, proprietary SSL VPN solutions such as Fortinet or Sophos.

Open source and community-driven instead of a marketing machine

NetBird deliberately focuses on openness, transparency and user-centricity instead of costly marketing campaigns or large sales teams. The recipe for success: an open source platform that is supported by the community, paired with a simple, intuitive user experience. At a time when many companies are frustrated by frequent VPN security updates and critical security vulnerabilities, NetBird is becoming increasingly attractive.

Security infrastructures need to be open, modular and adapted to modern ways of working. NetBird combines technical excellence with genuine acceptance in the developer community. Particularly impressive is the rapid, organic adoption by teams that are completely replacing their VPN structures.

Proof of Concept Starts at Home

NetBird is pursuing a novel growth concept: the platform is designed to work in the background without teams having to manually configure ports, gateways or firewalls. Marketing and sales activities are minimal; growth is organic via the community, IT influencers and early adopters.

Our strategy is called 'Proof of Concept Starts at Home'. Users can test NetBird freely, gain initial experience directly in their home lab and then use the product seamlessly in production. This creates trust that surpasses any traditional marketing campaign.

Customer migration from traditional SSL VPNs

Since its launch, NetBird has gained customers from a variety of industries and regions, from managed service providers and startups to global corporations and European government organizations. Customers include Sport Alliance, netgo, Signicat and VIEW Group.

The new funding will accelerate expansion and product development to build NetBird into a globally recognized platform for secure network access. The goal is to migrate organizations from traditional SSL VPN solutions such as Sophos, SonicWall or Fortinet to NetBird.

Maycon, CTO of NetBird, emphasizes: "We are already winning contracts and migrating customers from traditional SSL VPN products. With the new funding, we can do this on a larger scale."

European sovereignty remains a key concern for NetBird, providing companies with a modern, locally developed alternative to US providers for remote access and network security.
