The Dutch deep-tech start-up Novenda Technologies has raised 6.1 million US dollars in a Series A financing round. The funds will be used to bring the multi-material 3D printing platform for dental products to market maturity and scale it internationally. The aim is to automate the production of dental splints (nightguards) and dental prostheses with significantly higher quality and less manual effort than before.

Investors focus on efficiency, scaling and impact

The round was led by Brightlands Venture Partners. Other investors include the KBC Focus Fund (Belgium), the Borski Fund and the Limburg Business Development Fund/LIOF as well as several business angels. Novenda also received innovation funding (Innovation Credit) from the Dutch funding agency RVO.

Novenda stands for the next generation of digital dentistry - with high scalability and a real impact on affordability and quality.

Innovation meets industry needs

The dental industry is on the brink of change: digital workflows are on the rise, but production is lagging behind. Novenda's solution enables fully automated 3D printing of complex dental products that combine hard and soft materials in a single pass. Thanks to water-soluble support structures, the otherwise time-consuming post-processing is no longer necessary. The color representation is also revolutionary: intelligent software generates almost unlimited color combinations with just a few basic colors - previously a weak point in dental 3D printing.

From research to series production

Founded in 2019 by Klaas Wiertzema, Petra Doelman and Joost Anne Veerman, the team has worked intensively on the needs of dentists and dental laboratories. The first working prototype was installed at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven in 2021, followed by a successful proof of concept in 2023.

Our technology combines maximum precision with real ease of use. In view of the growing shortage of skilled workers in dental technology, this is a real game changer.

Future plans: Europe, the USA and beyond

The team of currently 15 specialists in physics, chemistry, materials science and software development is working on expansion. Novenda's LD100 printer is operated exclusively with its own materials to ensure biocompatibility and quality. The platform produces up to 15 dental splints or 8 prostheses per hour - ideal for large and medium-sized dental laboratories in Europe and the USA.
