one.five receives 14 million euros

AI meets packaging. Hamburg start-up reduces costly mistakes in packaging R&D.

The Hamburg-based AI startup one.five has closed a Series A financing round of 14 million euros. The company intends to use the fresh capital to further scale its proprietary AI platform and expand the underlying database in order to make development processes for packaging products significantly more efficient and closer to the market.

The investors

The round was led by Dr. Hans Riegel Holding (known for HARIBO). Also involved are 212 NexT, Symbia VC, Btomorrow Ventures, KIMPA Impact, Zubi Capital and the existing investors Speedinvest, Planet A, Green Generation Fund, Climentum Capital, Revent and WEPA.

AI to reduce high failure rates in packaging development

one.five addresses a problem in the packaging industry. A certain proportion of the products developed never reach the market. According to the company, on average around 60 percent of R&D budgets are spent on developments without commercial success. The primary packaging sector for FMCG is particularly hard hit, where low margins, high volumes, changing consumer preferences and regulatory requirements make market success difficult.

The ecological pressure remains. Despite ambitious climate targets, only 15 to 20 percent of packaging worldwide is considered sustainable, while less than 15 percent of plastic packaging is recycled.

Product market fit in the development process

The AI platform from one.five integrates product market fit at an early stage of development by combining critical success factors such as technical performance, regulatory requirements, cost structures and consumer acceptance on the basis of data. The aim is to develop products that are market-ready right from the start.

The core product is the "Product Market Fit Compass", a platform with which manufacturers can systematically compare their product portfolios with the real requirements of brand manufacturers. This allows products with the highest chances of market success to be identified and specific development goals to be defined.

Expansion of the platform and new target groups planned

The company intends to use the funding to further scale the platform, generate additional proprietary data through experiments and real material applications and tap into new customer groups.

About one.five

one.five was founded in 2020 by Martin Weber (former CFO of Infarm) and Claire Hae-Min Gusko (former Head of Business Strategy at Infarm). The company currently works with paper manufacturers such as Starkraft (Zellstoff Pöls AG) and Grünperga Papier as well as packaging converters and global FMCG brands. The aim is to sustainably accelerate the transformation of the global packaging supply chain through AI-supported innovation.
