OroraTech and Kepler launch the world's first thermal livestream of the Earth
The Munich-based NewSpace startup OroraTech and the Canadian satellite operator Kepler Communications have reached a milestone in Earth observation. With the successful launch of four SAFIRE Gen4 sensor systems on board Kepler's next-generation satellites, the partners have laid the foundation for the world's first thermal live stream of the Earth.
The satellites were launched into space via a SpaceX launch. For the first time, thermal infrared data will be made available from orbit in near real time. This is a significant advance for the early detection of forest fires and other environmental applications.
Real-time thermal data thanks to networked satellite architecture
At the heart of the innovation is the combination of Ororach's SAFIRE Gen4 thermal sensors and Kepler's high-speed optical communication network. The recorded thermal data is processed directly in orbit, forwarded via the satellite network and transmitted to ground stations within a few minutes.
The satellites, which weigh around 300 kilograms, are equipped with an intelligent routing system that automatically distributes data across the constellation and minimizes delays. This results in significantly fewer gaps in coverage and unprecedented global coverage.
New standard for global forest fire monitoring
By integrating the SAFIRE Gen4 sensors into Kepler's satellite constellation, OroraTech can significantly expand its proven wildfire detection capabilities. The near-continuous availability of thermal infrared data enables faster alerts, more accurate situational awareness and shorter response times.
OroraTech delivers the world's first thermal live stream. Together with Kepler, we are setting a new global standard for real-time intelligence from space.

SAFIRE Gen4: Proven technology for flexible orbital use
The SAFIRE Gen4 sensor is a robust thermal system specially developed for use in space that can be integrated on almost any orbital platform. The SAFIRE sensor family is already in use on OroraTech and partner satellites and is the most widely used commercial thermal imaging solution in the world.
In the latest generation, the sensors provide particularly fast and high-resolution detection of thermal anomalies, which significantly improves the quality of environmental and climate analyses.
