PENEMUE raises 1.7 million euros for AI against digital violence

The Freiburg-based start-up PENEMUE has completed a financing round of over 1.7 million euros. The company intends to use the fresh capital to further develop its AI technology and advance its mission: secure digital communication worldwide.

AI to combat hate and disinformation

PENEMUE develops solutions based on artificial intelligence to detect and combat digital violence, online hate and communication-based cyberattacks at an early stage.

The number of people affected by digital violence is growing steadily, and it is not just the people affected who are victims, but everyone who reads along: fans, communities, the next generation.

A central focus is on understanding the context and on the transparency and explainability of the models used. The aim is not only to identify content, but also to correctly classify its meaning in the respective communication context.

The company was founded by Jonas Navid Mehrabanian Al-Nemri, Sara Egetemeyr and Marlon Lückert.

Broad field of application from sport to politics

PENEMUE's technology is already being used in various areas. Its customers include clubs in the first and second national soccer leagues, players from federal politics, companies, media houses, artists and influencers in Germany and Europe.

The startup also works with public prosecutors, police authorities and official reporting offices in order to prosecute digital crimes more consistently and strengthen preventative measures.

Growing social relevance

The founders see digital violence as a growing social problem. In addition to those directly affected, communities and public discourse are also affected. Digital hate campaigns could not only harm individuals, but also reinforce social divisions and influence political processes.

Expansion of technology and partnerships planned

PENEMUE plans to use the new capital to further scale its AI systems and establish new partnerships in Europe and beyond. At the same time, cooperation with public institutions is to be further intensified. The company's long-term goal is to make digital communication spaces safer and more respectful.
