Prematch extends financing round

The start-up has developed a platform for amateur soccer players and has now raised a total of 1.7 million euros. One of the investors is Gorillas co-founder Jörg Kattner.

Cologne-based soccer start-up Prematch has expanded its business angel funding round to 1.7 million euros. Investors include unicorn founders Ralf Reichert (ESL) and Jörg Kattner (Gorillas), plus leading gaming consultants, according to the startup.

Fiete Grünter, Lukas Röhle and Niklas Brackmann founded Prematch 2021. The start-up sees itself as a platform for soccer below the professional level. Its app combines components from social networks and soccer platforms. It wants to enable active soccer players to follow themselves as well as friends and teammates. Fans of amateur clubs will also be able to get more info about their soccer club.

"There is currently a new generation of soccer players and fans growing up. The commercialization in the professional sector is showing consequences. We see that 'real soccer' will rapidly gain in importance due to this trend and the advancing digitalization," explains the founding team.

So far, the start-up has only tested its app at the Rhineland and Central Rhine soccer associations. There, according to Prematch, one in three amateur soccer players were already using the service. At the start of the new soccer season, the start-up wants to expand throughout Germany. The founders also want to use the money raised to further develop their platform and expand their team.
