AfrikaBerlin" project launched

Over the next two years, Berlin aims to promote cooperation between start-ups from the German capital and certain countries on the African continent.

The start-up scene is currently discovering the potential of the African continent, as demonstrated, for example, by Ndiarka Mbodji with her start-up Kowry Energy. The state of Berlin is now specifically promoting the exchange between African and Berlin start-ups with the AfrikaBerlin project, which is being managed for two years by the NGO Enpact. Enpact is working closely with the talent and start-up teams of the business development agency Berlin Partner. The costs are borne by the state of Berlin, which wants to use the program primarily to provide targeted support for small and medium-sized startups as they expand.

"Africa has a booming start-up scene. Our AfrikaBerlin project is a great opportunity for Berlin start-ups to tap into new markets, enter into sustainable collaborations and at the same time contribute to the economic development of the partner regions," says Senator Ramona Pop, who is responsible for the economy. The project has chosen Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa for possible partnerships, especially in the sectors of Fintech, SaaS, IoT, Energy, Agrifood and Mobility or the Sharing Economy, respectively. The programme will offer online seminars, workshops, participation in trade fairs, image presentations and travel.
