SPRK opens Deli in Berlin

Impact start-up SPRK is always trying to find new ways to repurpose its rescued food: now it's adding the opening of its first deli in Berlin.

The impact start-up SPRK is opening its first deli in Berlin-Schöneberg. On offer are drinks and dishes made from rescued food. According to the Berlin-based start-up, it uses artificial intelligence to identify surplus food from the supply chain at suppliers and from warehouses. In one step, the start-up collects it and recycles it further, for example as a donation, for restaurateurs and canteens, or now in their own store.

The Deli is to be the first of a series of shops, and other distribution channels for the collected food are also being planned, writes the start-up. SPRK aims to reduce food surplus in the supply chain as much as possible.

"With the Deli, we give Berlin:ins the opportunity to taste sustainable dishes and products - a unique concept so far," says Alexander Piutti, who founded the start-up in 2020. Berlin is happy about the Deli: "The SPRK team was one of the first impactpreneurs to question cycles and take initiative against indifference," says Stefan Franzke, managing director of the business development agency Berlin Partner about the project.
