A big leap for Nukkuaa: How the startup Nukkuaa is taking a significant step forward with the support of 11.4 million policyholders.

Salzburg, Austria - Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) is now offering its 11.4 million policyholders the opportunity to use the sleep analysis app Nukkuaa. The aim is to identify sleep problems and improve them in the long term in order to promote the health of those insured.

Significant boost for the app

The collaboration with Techniker Krankenkasse represents a significant boost for the sleep startup Nukkuaa. The prospect of now having access to TK's 11.4 million policyholders not only represents an immense expansion of the potential customer base, but also considerable recognition and an important milestone for the company. Particularly in light of the fact that the app has only had over 5,000 downloads in the Google Play Store to date, this deal makes it clear what an enormous step the partnership with Techniker Krankenkasse represents. Considering common metrics, such as the conversion rate of users to paid subscriptions, this deal seems to significantly improve the prospects for Nukkuaa.

Almost one in three affected

In Germany, around 30 percent of the population suffer from sleep disorders, which can lead to serious illnesses and high costs. To counteract this problem, TK is covering the costs of Nukkuaa. The app offers a precise sleep analysis, tips and evidence-based sleep training with a focus on changing sleep behavior.

Techniker emphasizes the increasing attention for the topic of sleep and stresses that sleep disorders are serious illnesses that require more attention. Interest in health apps is generally increasing and TK has closely examined the effectiveness of Nukkuaa. The app was able to prove its sleep analysis precision and the effectiveness of its sleep training.

Sleep problems are no small matter, as a US study shows. People with poor sleep quality live up to 4.7 years shorter, are more susceptible to illness and are less productive. Nukkuaa starts early to prevent chronic sleep problems. In Germany, around six million people suffer from chronic insomnia, which leads to an increased risk of various illnesses.

One year free of charge

TK is offering Nukkuaa to its policyholders free of charge for one year to provide easy access. The app normally costs €14.99 per month or €149.99 per year (Applestore - as of 29.1.24). The app uses a Polar sensor for sleep analysis and also allows other devices to be connected via Google Fit or Apple Health. Certification as a medical device is still pending this year.

No further information has yet been released regarding the details of the contract between Techniker Krankenkasse and sleep startup Nukkuaa.
