Startup NanoSen develops a novel sensor material and receives fresh capital for market entry.

Chemnitz/Leipzig, May 12, 2025 - TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen announces its investment in NanoSen GmbH. The deep-tech start-up, a spin-off of Chemnitz University of Technology, is developing a novel, polymer-based nanocomposite material (PNC) that enables the production of extremely thin, flexible and robust force sensors. The seven-figure investment is intended to help NanoSen bring its technology to market maturity and open up new applications.

New materials for the sensors of the future

At the heart of the innovation is a specially developed piezoresistive and piezocapacitive nanomaterial that changes its electrical conductivity when compressed. The resulting sensors combine high sensitivity, long service life and low energy consumption with the flexibility to adapt to a wide range of applications.

NanoSen's approach differs from the technologies previously available on the market by selling our PNC material to system integrators and sensor manufacturers to develop new products. The material opens up new possibilities that are not possible with existing technologies.

A patent-pending measuring method enables a significantly extended measuring range and increases the precision of the sensor technology.

Plug & play: getting started made easy

Another unique selling point of NanoSen is the accessibility of the technology. Using a plug-and-play kit with a USB connection, developers can start integrating the material straight away without any time-consuming preparatory work. The PNC material is offered on an industrially scalable basis for series production and is aimed at sensor manufacturers and system integrators who can use it to create their own products.

Spin-off with strong roots in research

NanoSen is a spin-off of Chemnitz University of Technology and was founded by an international team: Dr. Rajarajan Ramalingame, Dr. Sonia Bradai, Rick Henkner and Joseph Stephens. The team not only has a high level of scientific expertise, but also entrepreneurial know-how. Already successfully funded as part of the EXIST program, the start-up won the Chemnitz University of Technology's 2023 start-up competition and was nominated for the Saxon Founder Award in 2024.

TGFS supports technological market entry

With the entry of TGFS, NanoSen is now not only receiving capital, but also strategic support for the next stage of development.

With its technology, NanoSen is pursuing a vision that has the potential to permanently change the market for force sensors. The team has the necessary depth of technological understanding. We look forward to further development together.

Sören Schuster, Managing Director of TGFS

The investment will be used in particular to expand the team, further develop the sensor materials and for initial pilot applications with industrial partners. In the long term, NanoSen plans to take on a leading role in flexible sensor technology and open up new applications such as in the healthcare sector.

Conclusion: From Saxony into the world of high-tech sensor technology

With the development of a powerful and versatile sensor material, NanoSen is hitting the nerve of a growing market for smart, networked systems. The combination of scientific depth, industrial scalability and a clear market focus makes the Chemnitz-based start-up one of the most exciting sensor technology newcomers in Germany.
