Tier Mobility acquires Spin and expands to North America

It is the third acquisition since November: With the purchase of Spin, Tier Mobility enters the market in the USA and Canada and strengthens its UK business.
Tier Mobility has acquired US-based e-bike and e-scooter provider Spin. The purchase adds 50,000 more e-bikes and e-scooters to the Berlin-based startup's fleet, and it will offer its services in 106 communities in the U.S. and Canada. The two companies are keeping quiet about the purchase price.
Tier now wants to modernize the Spin fleet and equip it with replaceable batteries. Together, the two companies hope to develop new standards for micromobility and improve driving safety through new technology. "We look forward to helping citizens in cities and towns across North America make the switch from cars to more sustainable urban mobility solutions - a switch that is urgently needed to decarbonize cities and towns around the world," says Tier Moblity co-founder and CEO Lawrence Leuschner. In North America, Spin's team is to continue as a standalone entity. The UK business, on the other hand, is to be incorporated into Tier in the near future. Prior to the takeover, Spin belonged to the Ford automotive group.
The takeover is the third within a short period of time: At the end of last year, Tier Mobility first acquired the Wind Mobility subsidiary Vento Mobility, then the bikesharing provider Nextbike.
