The Berlin-based maritime tech start-up Tilla has secured two million euros in a new financing round. The aim: to further develop its crew logistics platform and expand the business internationally. The round is led by Motion Ventures, supplemented by a strategic investment from the Belgian shipping company EXMAR.

With Motion Ventures and EXMAR, we are gaining strong partners with industry expertise and a global presence.

Industry-relevant investors support scaling

Motion Ventures is one of the most active investors in the maritime technology sector with a recently launched 100 million dollar fund. As a well-known player in the industry, EXMAR also contributes operational expertise and international networks. The current round brings Tilla's total funding to date to four million euros.

The startup plans to use the new capital to expand its team, enter new markets such as APAC and the Mediterranean region and further develop its platform.

Digital change in crew management

Around ten million crew changes are carried out worldwide every year. This creates a market with an estimated total cost of 12 billion US dollars. Many processes are still based on manual coordination, for example by email, telephone or Excel spreadsheets.

Tilla addresses an often underestimated cost center. The team has shown that it can combine technological excellence and market access.

This is exactly where Tilla comes in. The platform integrates all relevant data sources and automates processes such as planning, flight booking, billing and reporting. The aim is to create an end-to-end tool that integrates seamlessly into existing systems and can reduce the time required for crew changes by up to 40% and costs by up to 24%.

Over 35,000 crew trips already processed

Since its foundation in 2021, Tilla Technologies GmbH has organized more than 35,000 crew changes. The platform is in use on over 500 ships and is used by customers in ten countries. Users include Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, Essberger, Wilson, Stödig, Seatrade and the investor EXMAR itself.
