Uber takes over Blacklane and expands premium segment
Uber has announced the acquisition of the Berlin-based chauffeur service Blacklane. With this transaction, Uber intends to significantly expand its activities in the premium and business travel sector. The completion of the acquisition is still subject to regulatory approvals and is expected by the end of 2026. The companies have not officially announced the price. Other media are reporting a high three-digit million figure.
Blacklane as a global premium provider
Blacklane was founded in Berlin in 2011 and specializes in high-quality chauffeur services. The company is now active in over 500 cities in more than 60 countries and is primarily aimed at business travelers and discerning private customers.
Blacklane arranges rides with local chauffeur services via an app and web platform, placing particular emphasis on quality and uniform service standards.
Strategic expansion of the luxury segment
For Uber, the takeover is part of a larger strategy: the company is increasingly investing in premium mobility services. In particular, pre-booked rides via "Uber Reserve" are one of the fastest growing segments in the mobility business.
With the integration of Blacklane, Uber wants to expand its offering in the premium segment and at the same time tap into new customer groups. In addition, the company recently announced a move towards chauffeur services with "Uber Elite".
Combination of technology and service
The merger is intended to combine the respective strengths of both companies:
- Blacklane brings expertise in premium service and the global chauffeur network
- Uber contributes its technological platform and global reach
Together, the companies want to build a scalable platform for high-quality mobility solutions.
Next growth step for Blacklane
For Blacklane, the acquisition marks the beginning of a new growth phase. The company sees the partnership as an opportunity to roll out its services more quickly internationally and tap into new markets. The aim is to standardize premium mobility to a greater extent and make it available globally, while maintaining a high level of service. Ultimately, the market will decide how great the demand really is.
