Sono Motors presents solar kit for buses

The new kit is intended to make buses more sustainable and reduce inner-city greenhouse gas emissions. The Munich-based company also presented the design of the Sion model for the first time.
The Munich-based solar start-up Sono Motors is celebrating two premieres at once. The company presented the product design for the Sion solar electric car and the so-called Solar Bus Kit for local public transport for the first time. With the Solar Bus Kit, Sion wants to help bus fleet operators reduce their CO2 emissions and diesel consumption. The kit can be used to install solar modules on buses.
"The Solar Bus Kit enables us to intensify our solar business by optimizing the scalability of our technology for a huge market: the public and private bus sector," says co-founder Jona Christians.
Christians founded the start-up together with Laurin Hahn and Navina Pernsteiner in 2016. The company's mission is to make mobility independent of oil and equip every vehicle with solar cells. In addition to cars, the company's solar technology is also suitable for buses, trains and boats. Sono Motors is currently working on preparing a fleet of series validation vehicles for the test program. Practical tests are to take place in Europe and the USA over the next few months.
