Sono Motors presents solar kit for buses

The new kit is designed to make buses more sustainable and reduce inner-city greenhouse gas emissions. The Munich-based company also presented the design of the Sion model for the first time.
The Munich-based solar start-up Sono Motors is celebrating two premieres at once. The company presented for the first time the product design for the Sion solar electric car and the so-called Solar Bus Kit for public transport. With the Solar Bus Kit, Sion aims to help bus fleet operators reduce their CO2 emissions and diesel consumption. The kit allows solar panels to be installed on buses.
"The Solar Bus Kit allows us to intensify our solar business by optimizing the scalability of our technology for a huge market: the public and private bus sector," says co-founder Jona Christians.
Christians co-founded the startup with Laurin Hahn and Navina Pernsteiner in 2016. The company's mission, he says, is to make mobility independent of petroleum and to equip every vehicle with solar cells. The company's proprietary solar technology is suitable not only for cars but also for buses, trains and boats. Sono Motors is currently working on producing a fleet of series validation vehicles for the test program. Field tests are scheduled to take place in Europe and the U.S. in the coming months.
