Knowunity with 27 million euros Series B

Berlin-based EdTech startup Knowunity has received 27 million euros in a Series B financing round to roll out its AI-supported learning companion worldwide. The round was led by European VC XAnge, with participation from Portfolion, Isomer Capital, Project A, Redalpine, Educapital and well-known business angels such as Verena Pausder and Arthur Kosten (Booking).
The new round brings the total capital invested to over 45 million euros. Knowunity plans to use the fresh money to tap into new markets such as the USA and Asia and to further expand the personalization of the app.
From school frustration to an education platform with 20 million users
Knowunity was founded in 2020 by four students and today the app is one of the fastest growing learning platforms in Europe. More than 20 million students in over 15 countries already use the service, in Germany around a third of all students.
With AI, we can finally offer young people what they really need: direct feedback, personalized learning plans and real motivation.
Benedict Kurz, CEO and co-founder of Knowunity
What started as a platform for shared study notes is now a comprehensive AI-based learning companion built on a database of over 3 million pieces of community content.
Personalization for the school context
At the heart of the platform is a context-sensitive AI tutor that draws on real content from peers. Unlike generic chatbots, it takes curricula, personal learning goals and knowledge levels into account. The app is used more than five times a week on average, and even more frequently when interacting with the AI tutor.
Knowunity is turning the education system on its head - and will ensure that every pupil has a smart learning companion at their side in the future.
Valerie Bures, Partner at XAnge
In addition to the B2C subscription model, which now accounts for the majority of sales, Knowunity also works with brands such as Vodafone, Gothaer and Porsche in the area of employer branding.
Aiming for one billion users
Knowunity has a clear mission to provide students around the world with access to high-quality, personalized education. And at a fraction of the cost of conventional tutoring. The learning aid should be available at any time, tailored to everyday learning and, in the long term, supplement or replace traditional educational services.
