Biontech distributes record amount to venture capitalists

Investors in MIG Funds 7, 8 and 9 can look forward to a total distribution of 600 million euros.
MIG Funds 7, 8 and 9 have distributed the highest amount ever: A total of 600 million euros flowed back to the private investors of the HMW group of companies. 340 million euros came from Biontech, the Mainz-based manufacturer of the coronavirus vaccine. "In Europe, Biontech is one of the most successful investments of all time. I am delighted for our many private investors who have made this impressive journey with us," says Matthias Hallweger, CEO of the HMW Group, which is responsible for the distribution of the MIG funds. It was only in October last year that the HMW Group received the then record distribution of 150 million euros from Biontech. This was more than doubled a quarter later.
Together with the Strüngmann Family Office, the MIG funds invested 13.5 million euros in the Mainz-based pharmaceutical company in 2008. "We financed Biontech with our MIG funds and the Strüngmann family office as joint founding investors because we were excited and convinced by the company's highly innovative and disruptive approach from the very beginning," says Michael Motschmann, CEO of MIG Verwaltungs-AG, which is responsible for the MIG funds' investments.
