Biontech distributes record amount to venture capitalists

In total, investors in MIG Fonds 7, 8 and 9 can look forward to a distribution of 600 million euros.

MIG Fonds 7, 8 and 9 have distributed the highest sum ever: A total of 600 million euros flowed back to the private investors of HMW Unternehmensgruppe. 340 million euros came from Biontech, the manufacturer of the Corona vaccine from Mainz. "In Europe, Biontech is one of the most successful investments of all time. I am delighted for our many private investors who have walked the impressive path with us," says Matthias Hallweger, member of the Management Board of HMW Group, which is responsible for the distribution of MIG funds. It was only in October last year that HMW Group received the then record distribution of 150 million euros from Biontech. This was more than doubled a quarter later.

In 2008, the MIG funds, together with the Strüngmann Family Office, invested 13.5 million euros in the pharmaceutical company from Mainz. "We financed Biontech with our MIG Funds with the Strüngmann family office as joint founding investors because we were excited and convinced by the company's highly innovative and disruptive approach from the very beginning," said Michael Motschmann, CEO of MIG Verwaltungs-AG, which is responsible for the MIG Funds' investments.
