8.5 million euros Series A for Gardia

Series A led by Peak accelerates growth in the DACH region. Automatic fall detection without a smartphone meets increasing demand for care

The HealthTech start-up Gardia from Soest has successfully completed a Series A financing round of 8.5 million euros. The round was led by the European venture capital investor Peak. Also involved are amberra, the corporate venturing studio of the cooperative FinanzGruppe, and butterfly & elephant, the accelerator of GS1 Germany. In addition, existing investors BONVENTURE, Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures (DvH Ventures) and Beurer are investing again. Several business angels also participated in the round.

Mobile emergency call system especially for senior citizens

Gardia is developing a mobile emergency call system that is specifically geared towards the needs of older people. The core product is an emergency call bracelet with automatic fall detection that works both in the home and on the move. The hardware, software, app and the underlying AI algorithm are all developed in-house.

The aim is to create a reliable safety net that is accepted in everyday life and automatically organizes help in an emergency.

Suitable for everyday use instead of stigmatizing

According to Gardia, many existing emergency call systems are hardly used in everyday life because they are perceived as complicated or stigmatizing. The start-up therefore deliberately focuses on an unobtrusive design, simple operation and high technical precision in fall detection.

According to the company, Gardia has already reached a five-digit number of active users in the DACH region and has established a leading market position in the field of mobile emergency call systems. An important growth driver is the full reimbursement of the system by German health insurance companies.

Great demand due to demographic change

Demographic change is intensifying the need for solutions for a safe, self-determined life in old age. In the European Union, the number of people over the age of 65 will rise from 97 to over 110 million in the next ten years. In Germany, around 96% of senior citizens live in private households, while at the same time there is an increasing shortage of skilled nursing staff.

Every year, around 5.7 million falls occur in people over the age of 65. Many of those affected are then unable to call for help themselves, which significantly increases the risk of serious consequential damage. Automatic emergency call systems can make a decisive contribution to relieving the burden on the healthcare system.

Capital flows into growth and B2B expansion

Gardia plans to use the capital from the Series A financing to further accelerate its growth in the DACH region, expand internationally and develop its B2B business in the care and healthcare sector.

Growth will be supported by strategic partnerships. Together with Bosch, Gardia provides 24/7 emergency call support by trained specialists who handle emergencies according to individually defined processes. Thanks to the collaboration with Beurer, the product is also available via established online and stationary sales channels in more than 100 countries. At the same time, the company is working on the next generation of its emergency call system.
